Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Measuring jigger
  • Muddler (optional)
  • Strainer
  • Glasses (salt-rimmed optional)

Ingredients

  • For the Spicy Margarita:
  • 3 oz tequila preferably blanco or silver
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice about 1 lime
  • 1 oz orange liqueur like Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1-2 slices of fresh jalapeño adjust based on your spice preference
  • ½ oz agave syrup optional, depending on sweetness preference
  • Ice cubes
  • For Garnish:
  • Lime wedges
  • Salt for rimming the glass optional
  • Additional jalapeño slices or lime wheels

Instructions

  • Method for Creating a Spicy Margarita
  • Prepare Your Glass:
  • If you’d like a salted rim, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into salt. Set the glass aside.
  • Muddle the Jalapeño:
  • In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh jalapeño slices. Using a muddler, gently press down on the slices to release their juices. (Feel free to adjust the amount of jalapeño based on your spice tolerance!)
  • Combine Ingredients:
  • Add the tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup (if using) to the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
  • Shake It Up:
  • Secure the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This step chills the mixture and blends the flavors beautifully.
  • Strain and Serve:
  • Using a strainer, pour the cocktail into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and additional jalapeño slices if desired.
  • Enjoy Responsibly:
  • Sip your Spicy Margarita and enjoy the delightful combination of spicy and sweet flavors!
  • Variations
  • Fruit-Infused: Add fresh fruit like mango, strawberry, or watermelon to the shaker for a fruity twist. Simply muddle the fruit along with the jalapeño.
  • Smoky Flavor: Substitute mezcal for tequila to give your margarita a smoky depth.
  • Herbal: Add a few fresh mint leaves to the shaker for a refreshing herbal note.
