Course Drinks
Cuisine American
- Ingredients
- 2 ripe kiwis peeled and sliced
- 1 lime cut into wedges
- 2 tablespoons of sugar or a sugar substitute for a lower-calorie option
- 6 ounces of cachaça a Brazilian sugarcane spirit; vodka can be used as a substitute
- Crushed ice to taste
- Fresh mint leaves optional, for garnish
Method
Prepare the Glasses
Start by preparing your serving glasses. This cocktail is best enjoyed in short, sturdy glasses. You can chill them in the freezer for a few minutes if you like your drink extra cold!
Muddle the Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add the sliced kiwis and lime wedges. Sprinkle the sugar on top. Using a muddler, gently mash the fruit and sugar together. This releases the juices and helps dissolve the sugar. Be careful not to over-muddle, as you want to maintain some texture from the kiwi.
Add the Cachaça
Pour the cachaça over the muddled mixture in the shaker. This is where the magic happens! If you’re using vodka instead, feel free to substitute it in.
Shake it Up
Add a handful of crushed ice to the shaker and secure the lid. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. This chills the mixture and blends all the flavors together beautifully.
Serve
Fill your chilled glasses with crushed ice and strain the cocktail mixture over the ice.
Garnish
If you like, add a sprig of fresh mint on top for a refreshing aroma and a pop of color!
Tips and Variations
Sweetness Level: Adjust the amount of sugar based on your preference. For a lower-calorie option, try using stevia or agave syrup.
Fruit Variations: Get creative! This cocktail works well with other fruits like strawberries, passion fruit, or mango. Just substitute the kiwi with your chosen fruit and follow the same steps.
Mocktail Version: For a non-alcoholic version, simply skip the cachaça and use sparkling water instead. You’ll still enjoy a delicious and fruity drink!
